The resorts of the Italian Dolomites include a huge variety of terrain set against a stunning mountain backdrop, making it the ideal destination for any level of skier. The lift systems range from the original t-bars to modern high speed chairs, and the resorts cater both for locals who ski to relax and people watch, to the serious skiers attracted by the extreme terrain. The ski areas of the Dolomites include Cortina d'Ampezzo, Alta Badia, Kronplatz, Val Gardena, Vald di Fasssa, Arrraba, Alta Pusteria, Val di Fiemme, Martino di Castrozza, Valle Isarco, Moena, and San Pellegrino.
The Sella Ronda is one of the most famous skiing circuits, 24 km of terrain that can be skied in either direction around the vast jagged Sella Massif mountain, and many of the resorts are connected from here. It provides lift-linked access to the valleys of Alta Badia, the Val di Fasse region and the Val Gardena area, including Selva Gardena, home to the annual World Cup Downhill races. Arraba, at 1600m one of the highest resorts in the region, offers some of the most challenging runs within the circuit, attracting serious skiers to this traditional mountain village, and the Queen of the Dolomites, the Marmalado glacier, the highest mountain at 3,342m, is ideally placed in the heart of the Superski area.
The province of Trentino is full of non-stop valley skiing, with the major resort of Madonna di Campiglio having grown into one of Italys' largest resorts, offering good beginner and intermediate trails, all impeccably groomed. Cortina d'Ampezzo offers phenomenal intermediate and advanced skiing with some of the best mountain dining in the world, in an upscale elegant resort.
