Sauze D’Oulx resort guide

View all our accommodation in Sauze D'Oulx here: Sauze Accommodation Sauze D’Oulx is one of the most popular and best loved ski resorts in Italy. The resort offers a great selection of slopes catering for all levels and connects to neighbouring Sestriere and Sansicario for those who wish to wander further afield. The resort itself is pretty with a woodland backdrop, quaint centre and old town and as well as a vast selection of restuarants, there is also a famous après ski scene

Lifts

There are three main lifts from Sauze to the slopes; Clotes (town), Sportinia (top of town)
and Jouvenceaux (old town).

Pistes

Sauze has a good range of Pistes and is excellent for intermediates. Sportinia is the
central ski area at the top of Jouvenceaux and Sportinia lifts. At Sportinia, there is the ski
school and baby slopes. From here you can take the two main chair lifts up to the top of
the ‘Motorway’ (wide central piste), which links to Clotes, Sportinia, Jouvenceaux and
neighbouring linked areas of Sansicario and Sestriere. Here some of our favourite runs:
12 – Jovenceaux. This is an excellent long piste for interemediates, which runs from the
left of the ‘Motorway’ right down to the bottom of the Jouvenceaux lift. If conditions are
not great, it may only be possible to ski to mid-station, where you can take the chair lift
back to Sportinia.
11 – Just under the Sportinia chair lift running down to Clotes, a wide open piste with a
few steep parts.
29 – A lovely long tree lined run – great for both intermediates and beginners. Go straight
down the ‘motorway’ past the disused hut on the right and take a left turn about 100m
past this. Beginners should take 2nd left.

For those looking for more variety, Sestriere is excellent and has pistes to cater for both
beginners (excellent) and expert skiers. Beginners should take the one man chair lift from
the top of the ‘motorway’ to the cable car. Intermediates can ski down into the bowl and
take the N17 4 man chair lift up to the cable car. The KN Olympic black run is excellent
and challenging. There is also a snow park for boarders and plenty of baby slopes for
beginners and children (although it may be better to drive to Sestriere with children).

Finally, we must mention Sansicario. It can sometimes seen a little complicated to get
over and back with chair lifts, drag lifts and travelators but it is worth it for the confident
skier! This area offers one of the best pistes in the whole Milky Way, the ‘Pista
Olympica Femminile’ This is a black run but long (very long), wide and not at all steep,
so perfect for improving technique. To reach this area you need to ski down into the bowl
from the top of the ‘Motorway’. Take the 4 man up to the top where the cable leaves for
Sestriere and take the slope back down the bowl taking a left turn (signposted). You will
need to take the drag lift up the slope.

Eating on the mountain

Even though Capanna Kind, Orso Bianco and Roccia Nera are all very popular in
Sportinia, we would recommend the food in La Cappanina; a small chalet hidden the
right hand corner of Sportinia, which offers some great home-made food. Orso Bianco is
great for drinks and offers tea in real mugs!

The Capricorn at the top of the Clotes lift offers the best food on the mountain. This is a
real restaurant for special occasions and treats.
At the top of Clotes lift, there is also a couple of mountain huts offering drinks and food.
The restaurant just up to the left of the lift, is good value and has good food.

Facilities in the resort

Sauze D’Oulx has a good selection of shops and facilities. In town there are two main
supermarkets; one on Via Assietta, just down from the Clotes lift and before Piazza
Assietta. The other is in Piazza Alpini. In this square you can also find a butchers, wine
shop, internet café’, etc

There are a couple of Pharmacy’s in town, one opposite Piazza Alpini, the other on Via
Assietta towards the old town. There is a second cash point in Piazza Assietta, opposite
‘The Lounge’ bar. In Piazza Assietta, there are a couple of take-away pizza bars.
There is a petrol station on the main road into the town just before the Tourist
Information Office.

Other

Food prices are obviously lower out of resort. From Turin airport, you can take the exit to
‘Rivoli’ on the way to the resort and there is a large Auchan supermarket. Alternatively
there is a Lidl in Susa, again only a short detour on the way to resort or the lower town
Oulx has many facilities.

Restaurants

Spaghetti House / Sugo’s – reasonable and good food on Via Assietta with pasta served
in Pans. (Reasonable)
The Village – at the bottom of the Clotes lift, a lively and fun restaurant with main menu
