Skiing in Italy is second to none, and very few countries enjoy the full flavour of skiing like the Italians. Be prepared for eating, sunbathing and fun on the slopes. The whole atmosphere is enhanced by friendly chatter in the bars, where you can stop for an aperitif of coffee throughout the day or in the little streets crowded with smart people and bursting with inviting boutiques. After lunch the slopes are generally yours as the locals relax, enjoy themselves or pamper in the resorts. Ok, the Italians do take skiing seriously but donï¾’t forget to enjoy life along the way!

Italy is really starting to lead the way with great service, friendly mountain staff and instructors, efficient piste grooming and not forgetting, great food at excellent prices (think mountain cheeses, sausages, polenta, stews washed down with excellent wines and grappa).

And if you dont fancy skiing, most resorts cater well for non skiers with sleigh rides, trails, spas, wine tours, tabogganing, snow parks, dog-sledging. There are always great cities nearby, which are undoubtedly steeped in history and offering a combination of art, culture and shopping.

Where to ski:

Apartments in the Dolomites are growing fast in popularity with International skiers and offer a host of stylish (but not snooty) resorts with plenty of character and charm. The sheer variety of skiing, from endless runs to challenging pistes will cater for all.

The Trentino part of the Dolomites is really becoming exciting with some great resorts and an interesting combination of Italian and Austrian influences (expect to see plenty of polenta and apple strudel as well as pizza and pasta).

Our pick of resorts:

Sophistication and style.....

CORTINA
Located in the Dolomites, Cortina is Italy's premier winter resort where you will find sophisticated skiing.  This wonderful resort offers old fashioned cafis, dramatic backdrops and plenty of glamour. In the evening the apres-ski is far more sophisticated than its Austrian neighbours.

MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO
Is a great stylish resort with high mileage skiing for all levels. This resort is superb for boarders also, offers good nightlife and all round fun.  Apartments in Madonna di Campiglio are excellent value.

Lots of fun ...

SAUZE D'OULX
Sauze D'Oulx is an excellent value, big and fun resort with extensive slopes and access to the Milky Way terrain. Boarders will enjoy the big open pistes and intermediates are spoilt for choice with access to over 400km of runs. The resort is a party venue and lively at night with plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs.  Apartments in Sauze d'Oulx are also very good value.

For the family...
